It was the last match at Everberg on a dust bowl of a pitch, so with strong selection, Captain Ledbury opted for tactical guile with Waite in midfield and Lewis partnering Harbusch up front. Tactical necessity put Erikson as far away as possible from the opposition area following a striker supreme cameo role the previous week. Bentham paraded a new look from a blind halal butchers hair salon for the occasion of Vets 1 v Tourinnois FC4.

Pierre then did the honours and fairly tossed the coin as the local sapeurs looked on whilst tending a fire on the side of the pitch.

It did not take long for the hard pitch to show its influence, scrappy play, difficulties to control and deliver quality ball was the order on both sides. Vets 1 were the more positive going forward with Tourinnois relying on the offside, the bumpy pitch and Pierre to thwart any forward runs. The reward for some early pressure and several offside decisions later was a Bentham corner. Excoceted in , clearing the first defender and too quick for a headed connection it fell to a surprised Erikson to try to get try and get some leather on it. A further spoil from Shiono on the left resulted in a Bentham corner which saw Lewis flash a header just over. Lewis also rattled a well struck shot from outside the box but it found centre goal and the goalkeeper.

Another cross from a deep right position had Harbsuch, Macdonald and Lewis bearing down out. Lewis chose to take the header somewhat unfortunately as Macdonald and Harbusch were primed to take a better opportunity.

The chances and scrambles mainly fell to Vets 1 without being clear cut, the midfield had been hitting through balls that the surface would frequently speeded to their goalkeeper or out of play. Then Goal, after a midfield tussle Waite broke through, heading towards goal, he refused the pass and let fly a right foot pile driver. The keeper deceived by the flight as it flew into the net, 1-0 at last.

Defensively Tourinnois did not pose truly serious problems. Riley was strong , Erikson was ugly, Macdonald assured and Wrigley busy, dealing with difficult ball from the surface. The few breaks from Tourinnois were either snuffed by Sjerson comfortably or just withered out.

Early second half saw a lethargic Vets 1 performance in the afternoon heat, Tourinnois were beginning to capitalise on this and pushed forward. Vets 1 defended well but could not hold on to the ball, frequently conceding possession with nothing of any quality reaching Harbusch or Lewis. It was no surprise when from a break on the right Tourinnois advanced into the box and scooped a shot over Sjerson 1-1. Vets 1 now had to rally to get something from the final match but they were looking tired in the cauldron of heat and passes continued to go astray.

Ledbury changed Erikson for Shiono at left back and brought on Taylor in left midfield for his 308th club appearance to add a natural left foot to the left side. Still struggling Vets 1 managed a few scrambles with Harbusch firing over and Waite attempting a deft chip over the keeper from a melee in the box. Frustration was still the order of the day as Vets 1 pushed hard for any fluency.

Goalfrom a through ball, Lewis burst free arcing a run to snuff out another offside ploy, running through trying to get the ball under control he headed directly for the goalkeeper leaving the defender flailing and stabbed it past the keeper comfortably from close range. 2 -1the last goal at Everberg had been scored by Vets 1.

With renewed vigour Vets 1 pushed forward and Waite struck a cross box ball that Lewis latched on to, to knock it off the goalkeeper and drive home the rebound . 2 -1the last ever disallowed goal at Everberg had been scored by Vets 1. Bentham had the last say, scurrying through from the right with “I am going to have a shot whatever” mentality, he did so and struck a fine shot it flew narrowly over. The last chance of a goal at Everberg had been taken by Vets 1.

The result put further shine on a sunny day in a dour struggle and let Vets 1 bring the curtain down at Everberg with a victory as the stats will show. Then as the last Everburger was consumed and the shutters came down on the bar, RBBFC 1 to 6 strolled off to a new challenge with division 1 football at Rosieres.
