Finally back from the winter break some three weeks late, and Vets 1 were hoping to pick up where they had left off, and continue an unbeaten run stretching back to September. Today's side was missing the influential Simon Yearsley, reluctantly loaned out to the 1st's, and of course the equally influential and charismatic Tony 'do you know this drinking song' White.

The start could not have been better with a goal straight from the kick off, following some efficient and slick passing, Brian Lewis was on hand to score his third goal in as many games. 1 - 0 From here on in the first half was very competitive, with Goalois defying their league position, as in the away game earlier in the season, proving to be a very capable team. Jez Bentham was on the end of several late and rash challenges as he imposed himself on the right flank, and yes it was only a matter of time before the ref was called to in to part him from his attacker. Jez then showed remarkable constraint not to react further, although he did use some rather colourful language whilst inviting his opponent to try and do it again!....... you know he used the C word, don't you! It was only towards the end of the first half that Vets 1 again put together some good passing moves and started to look the most likely to get the next goal. In fairness there were some good solid performances but we needed to step up a gear after the break if we were to put this game beyond our opponents.

At half time Captain Carl had to come off and was replaced by Dean Bannon. Carl reshuffled the midfield and asked for a more passing game. The second half got under way, and immediately Vets 1 were in the driving seat. Bannon put his mark on the game combining well with Bentham in particular, and this seemed to free up space for Hoskins and Dehombreux to feed the hard working Harbusch and Gutierrez up front. Brian Lewis seemed to be winning every tackle he went in for and even some he wasn't, his second half performance set the tone, and from here on in there only seemed one winner of this game. The back three of Waite, Morris and Eriksen looked rarely troubled, with Sejersen literally sweeping up anything over the top.

The second goal came from a corner that had been headed away, the ball falling to Bentham who floated over a cross from which Eriksen couldn't miss (we have heard that before) and it was 2 - 0, and show boat time for Freddy....who much to the amusement of the nearly redundant back three, turned a couple of players and dribbled past someone else.....he did really!!! Chances were staring to come our way and Frank and Mike up front were beating players for fun, with others shouting for them to shoot or pass it. One such move by Mike saw him calmly slot the ball past the keeper and it was 3 - 0.

A couple of other points to note in my opinion, was Paul Wrigley's second half performance playing deep just in front of the back three (excellent) the same for Bannon and Lewis in particular. The entire side put in a good performance and the same will be needed next week against British United away. During the second half Goalois had a free kick just outside the box, and it was struck beautifully right into the top corner, but as the song goes "we've got Tommy" and the Dane somehow managed to get across his goal and claw the ball the ball to safety. Having said all this (rather fragmentally) the highlight of the afternoon was the return of our beloved Delegue Sue. Welcome back Sue, we have all missed you.

MOM was a close affair with Freddy (Ronaldo) Dehombreux winning it.
