On a beautiful and sunny Saturday afternoon, RBBFC were at home to LTC and were firmly intent on gathering another 3 points, to make it 9 from 9 before the top of the tables clashes against Ireland and Jefke who both hold aspirations for the title. Let us not forget that last season; we only picked up 1 point from a possible 6 against today’s opponent… The tone was set.

RBBFC began the game looking organized and stroking the ball around as intended, while their opponent’s game plan was obviously to defend deeply and strike by means of counter attacks. The British pressing did not bare its usual fruit, they had the majority of the play but that final pass was lacking. The visitors probably had the two best clear chances of the half, but failed to convert their attempts to chip Adrian.

The referee would send the two teams in at half time with the score remaining 0-0.

From the moment the whistle sounded to begin the second half, it was obvious the British had received a bit of barrage at half time from their coach, they came out determined to control the game.

A CRAZY TEN MINUTES OF BRITISH ONSLAUGHT PASS…. And a quarter of an hour into the second half Hodgy’s pressing bears it’s fruit, albeit in a slightly unorthodox fashion (with his hand!), and he manages to hop through tWOo defenders and tuck the ball past the keeper.

At this point numerous opposition players are booked for demanding that the British ‘Hand of God’ be punished,… funny how history repeats itself albeit with a tasty little twist in the tale…nobody was aware that Hodgy had picked-up such tricks from the Argentinean selection.

The British euphoria was short lived as the referee was quick to compensate the frustrated opposition with a weak penalty given for a delicate tug on a shirt in the penalty area. As Brussels Ltc. Converted their penalty they seemed determined to hold their newly acquired 1-1 draw; the straight substitution of the defensive midfielder and the back left were the living proof of such a strategy being on the cards.

Unfortunately for Brussels Ltc’s recently substituted left back, he was going to imminently find himself in the midst of a baptism of fire as super Stevie chased down an excellently weighted deep pass by McGrath Junior; obliging the fresh defender to attempt a last resort tackle on our Gazelle, who was by then already well into the penalty area... and that is when Hodgy cooly steps up to tha plate…. 2-1 !

At that point the British regained their advantage which they would not lose in the remaining minutes, quite unlike Ltc who’s squad was depleted by two sending off’s of outraged and complaining players.

In conclusion the British can be pleased with a solid result achieved against a team that had turned up intent on securing a draw by refusing to engage the agreed game of football. Pleased and relieved with having secured the maximum amount of points before the great clash with FC Ireland, Hodgy was declared man of the match thanks to his two goals scored.

In the words of the Black Eyed Peas: “I GOT A FEELING….. THAT NEXT SATURDAY WILL BE A GOOD DAY!!! THAT NEXT SATURDAY WILL BE A GREAT DAY!!!!
