Poetry on and off the field
Nay was there ever a better day for the British to begin to play, And begin to do so in quite the fashion which has for over a year, been left by the way.
If there ever existed such a thing as a crucial moment, A Nilsy display of blithely execution would be the most fitting exponent.
Should perseverance ever gift you her fruit, You'd still need in an industrious Endre to conjure the loot.
An ailing beast falls from a majestic perch, by the valiant British and their self-perpetuating girth.
The ensuing dynamic afflcited sadness and panic, As the formidable display of style ensured that the quality difference was no less than oceanic.
Nay was there ever a better way for the British to begin to play, In a fashion that come next year, should guarantee a three-star career.
On a an unprecedented sunny and warm November afternoon the British arrived at Goalois' home ground to settle the long awaited title clash agains the league leaders. Internally the British were spoilt for choice and ended up sticking with the previous week's team who had assured a substantial 4-0l win against reasonable opponents. The consequence of the selection strategy decorated the bench with three normally starting players offering options in defense, mid-field and even attack - spoilt for choice indeed.
On a totally unscientific note the mere roar of the RBBFC 1's trade mark "take pleasure" before kick off was a sign that the British meant serious business today.
The competition for places being at their fiercest in a long time, and the huge stakes of the contest guaranteed that everyone on the pitch applied themselves and relentlessly harassesd Goalois resulting in a tremendous work-rate by everyone on the pitch.
The result of the uniting pressure was the most sensational footballing display that I have had the luxury of seeing at RBBFC and what is even more impressive is that the physical and technical dominance was done entirely without receiving even one booking - on that note it is probably worth mentioning the refereeing performance which should in fact be applauded.
The game can in fact be effectively transposed into four ryhming couplets punctuated by key events in the game....
To say that the British started off badly would be a bit harsh because one can but approach teams sporting stats like Goalois', with a certain amount of tentativeness. Arguably though, the first twenty minutes belonged mostly to Goalois who were commandeering the midfield and roaming up and down the British flanks with malicious intent. That said, the British defence was mostly resilient and seemed to handle the pressure with relative ease and resourcefulness. At this point the game appeared rather balanced and indicated that the clash would be a tightly fought battle of attrition.
Unpredictably however, at around the the 20th minute and rather against the run of play, the Brits were awarded a free kick, around 22 yards from the home teams goal, which was to result in hyperbolically casual finish by the most nonchalant gentleman on the British squad. A floated free kick to the back post was greeted by the side-netting, made a fool out of the Goalois keeper who is probably guilty of underestimating his wall's role and adopting questionable positioning.
0-1 (+/- 20th min, Nils McGrath's beautifully executed opportunistic free kick)
As is often the case, the whole team imbibed confidence as a consequence of the tally and the game began to resemble its final form a great deal more after the first goal had come.
In the second quarter the Brits pressed and created opportunities which finally resulted in a penalty being awarded after Endre got taken down in the box on one of his plentiful exciting runs which tore up the left flank throughout the fixture.
Once again and in his elegantly insouciant manner, Nils took the team forward with an intelligently struck spot kick.
0-2 ( +/- 33rd minute, McGrath - assist Endre)
It is worth mentioning that despite the increase in offensive phases by the British, Goalois were still successfully upsetting the British defence with very effective off the ball movement by their forwards: certainly a unique element which might have afforded them the top spot in the league for so long. In response however, the British dominated the aerial battle and punished most offensive phases with swift counter attacking fuelled by the youthful and energetic desire to extend their lead beyond repair for Goalois.
Having witnessed their labour pay dividends, the British lapped-up the blood of their weakening adverseries and set about plotting the demise of the wounded league leaders with abundant amounts of urgency and zeal. The next nail in Goalois' coffin came around ten minutes into the second half when the acrobatic Al Lamarra issued a trademark 25metre throw-in deep into the oppositions' 18 yard box. The move matured into a moment of glory after an excellent flick-on from the Danish streak of piss connected with Stevie Lamarra's boot to make it
0-3 (+/- 45th minute, S.Lamarra - assist McGrath)
After the third goal the unparalleled brilliance of team work and composure which led to the fourth and fifth goals was exemplary. Key distributing performances from the ever-present midfield players ensured that the Endré and Hodgy managed to get on the score sheet.
0-4 (Endre, S.Lamarra assist)
0-5 (Hodgy)
The sixth goal needs to be attributed to a moment of individual brilliance orchestrated by the clinical brilliance of Lars Hammer who we witnessed repeating move-for-move his goal scored last week; the concept of the sweet spot springs to mind.
0-6 (Hammer Time, t**he display of flair)**
RBBFC 1sts now find themselves top of the league table on a stats differences and are surely best placed to run into the winter break as even more of a favourite than a couple of weeks ago. With one game to go until the second round of matches in the league begins the hope is that they can build in their current momentum and turn out increasingly consistent and charismatic performances such as this weeks demolition of an alleged contender for this years title. Nothing less than glory will do for these boys, and this Saturday exemplified the thirst and passion for three stars which runs 16 players deep and fuels a squad armed to the teeth with talent and desire to take pleasure.
