RBBFC Vets 2 come away with 9 (nine) against a rusty and aging Pangloss.

The match was played under a typically grey Rosierian sky, but the final result was to be far from typical for a season opener.

Pangloss kicked off and began the game at (slow and steady) walking pace for about 20 seconds, exchanging a couple of passes (possibly the most they were to string together all game) then I think one of our midfielders nicked the ball and within as many seconds again, the first goal came. Ady tested their keeper, who parried, only for his defender to head it straight into his own goal (can Ady claim this?... you never know with ABBSA).

A couple of minutes later we found the net again and began to make the most of their numerical and age advantage (yes, you heard that right).

When Pangloss did get hold of the ball they struggled to get out of their half and the few times they did make a couple of passes and an attempt at an attack, this was soon mopped up by the big boys in central defense. When we got hold of the ball we untypically passed it round them - this was how it was for the next 32 minutes until we went in at half time 5 to the good.

After a bit of a stale period at the beginning of the second half things then resumed pretty much as before until the final goal tally was up to 9 (yes, nine) leaving the ref short on paper.

On the goal front, Timme netted 3, one of which I believe he started his dibble from the half way line and ended up passing most of Pangloss on the way (maybe he even stopped off for a cheeky beer before slotting the ball home as I lost concentration half way through).

Mark (man of the match two (three?) goals) got 3 for his reunion/first/last (really?) game of the season for Vets 2, he will probably be sitting pretty in northern Italy by the time he reads this - stuffing his face with pasta and wishing he could be back in Belgium.

Mr Ffinch got one and had a penalty saved by Pangloss’s busiest player, which we were unable to bury on the rebound - thanks Ady :-).

The last (but not in chronological order) on the score sheet was George, who also got 1 to his name.

Kenny did a great job (keeping warm and talking to himself to avoid terminal boredom) in the nets for the first half with Bas agreeing to stand between the posts for the second half.

Hugie got a run out midway through the second half to give yours truly a chance to see how it all looked from the sideline.
