The Thirds Go Marching On!!

Ben Thumwood

Saturday 8th October

Lineup: JB, Kevin, Tim, Ben, William, Nel, Thomas, Nuno, Karim, Salva, Ben E. Bench: Sam

Another day at Rosieres and another chance to keep the winning run going! Another crisis in team selection leaving us only with 12 players! Was it possible to continue the run? It seemed unlikely when there was no early goal for the thirds but they soon woke up and Salva would be the first to break the offside trap and convert his first chance of the game! Would it be another routine win? Maybe, but our captain told us to expect the unexpected before the game so he decided he would make sure we were listening when he went off injured in the first half, we were down to the bare eleven with Sam Boribon making his goalkeeping debut. Did the third team listen to the wise French man's words before the game or were they a blur? Apparently the earlier as the third team went marching on down the left wing and Thomas found Karim in the box who more by luck than judgement managed to lob the goalkeeper and a stranded defender on the line!

A short time later and the offside trap was broken again, by Salva again, who scored again, clearly with an eye on the golden boot the Italian striker let out his celebratory roar for everyone to hear (probably heard in Italy!). Half time and a comfortable 3-0 lead against a team who rarely threatened, could it be that the elusive clean sheet that no one dare speak of finally arrived?

The second half bought about more of the one way traffic and intensity seen in the first half and inevitably goal number four game. It is early to be staking a claim for goal of the season and there are already some fierce contenders but this one could be the one! One touch football, with a move where Ben found Tom, who crossed for Nuno who headed in top the top right corner from the edge of the box much to the delight of the RBBFC support!

The fifth RBBFC goal was again set up by Tom on the left wing who is claiming four assists for the day, when he found William in the box who fought hard to win the ball and slid to place the ball into the goal!

A long time ago, in a place not so far away, a clean sheet was finally kept! The defence and defensive midfielders worked intently for the full 70 minutes and finally avoided conceding a goal! Full credit to man of the match Nel and stand in goalkeeper Sam Boribon who didn't have a save to make but he did that well!
