Firstly, apologies for a much delayed match report, this one could be interesting, trying to write it a week later... now to the football!

Saturday 15th October

Patjes - RBBFC3

RBBFC went into the game in top of the league, however we were playing the team in second place for the second week in a row, a point would be enough to remain at top of the league but it could see the gap closed by teams below so a win and continuing the 100% record would be very nice!

RBBFC choose to attack uphill in the first half, the starting eleven were: Romain in goal, Kevin, Ben and Dams in defence, Nel, William, Pablo, Tom and Moussa in the five man midfield and Lore and Salva leading the line upfront. Subs were a slightly injured and nearly 40 year old JB, a jet lagged and only just arrived in Belgium Divine and a fully fit and 'ready to fight' Gerry!

Patjes had not conceded many goals and had scored quite a few prior to this game so the threat was again considered to be the biggest so far this season. The game started with the usual intensity from RBBFC but without the usual result, some resolute goalkeeping and defending from the Patjes team kept RBBFC at bay, there were also some promising counter attacks for Patjes that failed to produce the required finish after some nice build up play.

The deadlock was broken shortly before halftime, Pablo found the ball on the right wing and delivered a cross to beyond the far post which found Tom, Tom controlled the ball, thought about what to do for what seemed an eternity then finally, cooly finished to put RBBFC3 1-0 up.

Minutes later RBBFC3 would double their lead, this time Salva found the ball and outpaced his defender leaving him one on one with the goalkeeper, he also showed the finishing that RBBFC3 have demonstrated all season with a calm but well placed shot into the bottom corner. The calmness that was demonstrated in the shot was not in his usual celebratory roar which probably features on the Richter scale.

Half time followed, and RBBFC were 2-0 up after attacking uphill.

The second half saw two opportunities which could have changed the game for Patjes, Romain picked out a striker offering them a route back into the game before an emphatic save, Romain claims he was simply teasing the opposition strikers. Romain would maintain the clean sheet again in the half when making another save from a one on one palming the ball onto the cross bar.

William and Nel protected the defence extremely well and it was noticed by Nel recieveing his second and back to back man of the match award.

It also should be noted that Thomas 'doesn't run' Golightly has very much been running, confusing our players and causing great problems for the opposition on the wings. He even cycled to and from the game.

So the Thirds went marching on, the next match report will be completed by someone other than the vice captain who will be in luxurious Benidorm for the weekend.
