A much better performance than last weeks, ends up the same way: a defeat by one goal
Line-up: Puig, Rossi, Manfellotto, Lachia, Lo Presti, Friedrichs (Guarnaccia, Legere, Belalij (Henriquez), Ouellette, Godefroid, Deschamps;
Finally the best day of the week is coming: football, friends, beers and "Dance avec Les Stars”, etc. In the Stade Fallon, home of the Chiefs, RBBFC team is in the wrong changing room, Gunther is still at Brico at 13h35 (meeting at 13h) and everybody is asking for Tiger Balm... Yes RBBFC is ready to roll!
After these few moments of complete mess, Capitano, as usual, decided to share his football wisdom: "Guys, this is gonna be a tough match. Play easy! You receive the ball, you look around and boom boom boom, easy passes. Don’t try difficult things: don’t try to control the ball. We all know that nobody in the team can do it...”. This done, the line-up is known; back in the good old 3-5-2 with Rossi, Lachia and Mafellotto in defense, Friedrichs, Lo Presti, Belalij, Legère and Ouellette in the middle, Deschamps and Godefroid in attacking positions.
After a good warm-up, everybody was eager to play. Unfortunately for him, just before the kick-off, Pereira received a call of one of his biggest contractor. A broken tap and an invoice from Brico to handle means that our favorite Portuguese handy-man wouldn’t be able to play. Business is business but still sad!
The first 15 minutes were only whites; 68% of possession and 4 shots coming from the 2 forwards and a Legère who was back with all the energy and verve of his early days. The Chiefs tried a few counter-attacks but Capitano was vigilant and won his one on one against his opponents. Lo Presti tried to win the Puskas price with a superb volley on a cross from Belalij but his shoot was just over the crossbar.
Half-time, still 0-0 and 10 minutes of rest well-deserved for our colors. No change made and the game went back on. After just 1 minute, to everyone’s complete surprise, the Chiefs scored an undeserved goal; a long ball coming from midfield surprised the defense and the forward took advantage of it. 1-0 against the game.
Like warriors, the divine whites continued to attack but lack to finish their chances (Godefroid 45, Deschamps 52). On the battlefield, Legère was the first to cheer his team-mates up: ”Mais Putain Sylvain, contrôle ce ballon... T’as le temps bordel!” (In French on the pitch). Henriquez went in for Belalij (out for injury) and Gunther for Friedrichs. They both brought a lot of energy and experience as well as Ouellette but in vain. After a last double attempt by Godefroid and Lachia, the ref was blowing the final three.
The Chiefs could let explode their joy since a draw would have been more fair. That’s the beauty of this game some say. All whites were a bit frustrated but less than the last defeats; this week, at least, they played as a team, they shot, they created good phases. By keeping the same level and consistency, we are going to take points. All was forgotten around a beer and few chips except for Rossi who was disconsolate:”We lost and in addition, I did not have any kisses or high-five from Charlie and Jim...”. Sad to see a legend being jealous...
