Dominant Vets get revenge for early season defeat

Vets 1 Correspondent

The British squad took on the field with a cautious 4-5-1, with Tommy at the goal, Nando, Rog, Carlos and Ced at the back… a first line of central mid fielders with Husky, Bas and the captain and pichichi, Cian… completing the line of five were Ben S on the right and BBQ man on the left, with lone ranger Ben G in the front.

Our opponents were a strong team, Mir. Wemmel, that was just one point behind us on the table, but with two games less than us. Technically a very strong squad that has beaten us 1-0 during the first round of the season.

We started with a high level of concentration, dominating the field, and passing the ball around keeping great possession during the first several minutes of the game. A long ball from Bas to Gonzalo, found him going around the skipper inside the box, only to be tackled and falling to pieces to the astro. The man in black, very meticulous, called it what it really was… a clear penalty. About 10 minutes into the game and our pichichi Cian, netted the ball kicking to the right of the keeper (who had a profuse belly – seems he had been invited to the Cajade asado the night before J)…

Possession was more shared after that episode, they had a lot of balls into the box, either corners or free kicks from outside the box, but no damage was made to our strong defense and a highly illuminated Tommy who tonged most of those balls. First half finished with a harmless possession from Mir. Wemmel, and our counterattacks that were growing in danger to their defense.

Second half started as the first one, with us controlling the pitch and moving the ball around, looking to make the difference which finally came after several corners in the area. Long ball to the second post, over the gordo goalkeeper, found Husky alone heading it inside the net for a great goal, and a much deserve difference in the score.

The rest of the game was spent with them trying to score by throwing a bunch of long balls into our box, and us trying to net one of the many counterattacks we had at our disposal. Neither them, nor us, were successful in our aims, and the game finished with a very well deserved 2-0.

Great performance overall for RBBFC, against a direct rival on the championship. Game was totally under control, always. Defense was very strong throughout the 80’, excellent team work. Tommy kept another clean sheet and is closer to the 100 that will mean…retirement?
