VETS 1 finished a good season with a very comfortable win against the team that beat them 4-1 in the opening game of the season. Cajade and Knight in probably their final appearances for the club wanted to go out with win, and so it proved.

Missing several regulars through suspension including Captain Juan Arroz, it was still a strong line up with the usual the 4-5-1, with quality on the bench. There was considerable quality beside the bench too with the injured Belfi and the suspended Hoskins (who turned up earlier than he does when he is playing!) and Levionnais turning out to support the lads. Brian Lewis delegued and looked after the car keys.

The opening 5 minutes were a cagey affair with both teams getting on the ball. One simple ball into feet saw Griffiths turn his marker with one touch 25 yards out and then lash a sweet left strike into the bottom corner before the keeper even thought about diving. 1-0, but not over.

A few minutes later with the game still evenly poised some sloppy marking saw their dangerous nr 10 burst free. Big bad Bas Ten Holter saw the danger and gently tugged him down with a Koemanesque professional foul 30 yards out. For some reason, the ref decided it only merited a yellow, so we got out of jail, and Bas saved his shampoo for a bit later. Great work Bas!

Griffiths was looking a threat and had a goal disallowed due to handball off Rick O'Shea in the box and then missed a sitter shortly afterwards.

The rest of the half saw Utd have more of the ball without really threatening. Sinikovic having a strong game down the right had a chance to extend our lead but the keeper managed to spread himself well to block at the near post.

HALF TIME 1-0, should have been 3-0. Watch the nr 10 and goals will come.

Second half actually saw better passing and ball retention from Vets 1. Yearsley was knitting attack and defence together. Chances were created but not finished. Griffiths, Knight and Cajade went close, but could not get the break our play deserved. As the game stretched, we sat back and soaked up pressure, looking in control at the back and dangerous on the break.

Gutierrez entered on the right and a change in Italian regions on the left wing, Salvel for Sardaro.

It took until 10 mins to go for the breakthrough, Knight in typical fashion burst forward with pace and power and smashed home low and hard from outside the box to kill the game off. Tommy never really had much to do for a pretty easy clean sheet, protected immaculately by Waite and Christensen.

Great win in the sunshine against the old rivals to sign off a good season, and a fitting farewell to 2 good guys. Safe travels Gonzalo and Darran, you will be missed!
