This week's game saw a return to the home of FC Irlande. A team who we beat last yet however, also a team to whom we suffered a 4-1 defeat in preseason. Therefore, it was time to take revenge in order to take the claim the coveted first win of the season for RBBFC2. A sterling speech from Captain Daniele got the team raring to go before the game.
The game started off at a fast pace. FC Irlande started strong and struck the bar from a header early on in the game. But both teams were evenly matched for the first 10-15 mins as RBBFC pressed well from the midfield forward.
RBBFC get a penalty after a hand foul in the box well provoked by Gary on a corner. Daniele slotted the penalty down the centre of the goal sending the keeper to his left. 0-1 for RBBFC2 !
FC Irlande still saw a lot of the ball after that and equalized soon after with another cross into the box leading to an goal from another header. 1-1 ! RBBFC continued with the high pressure when Daniele broke free on the right hand side of the box to feed in Miguel whose shot was saved by the keeper from 12 yards. Another chance for RBBFC soon after saw Daniele try and go around the keeper but again this effort was stopped by the keeper's feet with another great save.
FC Irlande had another half chance later in the first half but the effort went wide of the post. 1-1 at half time although RBBFC should have been a few goals ahead at this stage.
The second half started much the same as the first. Both teams saw an equal amount of the ball, with RBBFC playing some very nice passing football from the mid field forward. FC Irlande continued to press but the RBBFC defense handled everything well, with the help of Spencer tracking back well, leaving goalkeeper Marc with little to do other than a few goal kicks. Other than the goal by FC Irlande, keeper Marc held the ball well and came out to collect the ball himself or punch it away at corner kicks.
After some time though RBBFC took the lead after some nice football by the midfield and forward players when the ball was laid off for Antoine Gary in acres of space at the edge of the box. His first time strike went high into the net with the keeper diving low giving RBBFC a well-deserved lead. 1-2 for RBBFC2 !
For the last part of the game FC Irlande sent everything they had forward. However, time after time the RBBFC defense and midfield dealt with any danger and on numerous counter attacks had acres of space down the left hand side. A nice run down the wing and shot across goal from William went just wide of the goal. With 5 minutes to go FC Irlande continued to push, however their efforts were undone when, on the counter attack after a defensive mistake from FC Irlande Daniele fed the ball to Miguel who had a few twists and turns before slotting the ball just inside the post so finalize the win. 1-3 for RBBFC2 ! Some further efforts such as the acrobatics from Daniele could have yield yet more goals but all in all it was a well-deserved first victory of the season to RBBFC - 2s.
Now onto next week to continue the high pressure and get that second win!!
